Are you online?

Happy New Year, folks! We have a brilliant list of events to tell you about, one’s from the greater aro community and some of our own too.

Coming this February is AroWriMo. Based on NaNoWriMo - the National Novel Writing Month - we now have an Aromantic Writing Month. For all you writers out there, the event accepts short stories, novels, poetry, ballads, song lyrics, epic poems, comics, plays, fanworks, and non-fiction pieces. While there’s no doubt you have a few ideas of your own already - some aro conversation you’d like to initiate - the event also has a list of prompts to inspire you. Happy writing!

Last year’s final Carnival of Aros event has been soundly rounded up by our host Sara K. It comes as no surprise that the topic of “Love” would get so many aros talking. This year’s Carnival will be kicked off by Neir, one of AUREA’s own, on the topic of all things “New”. Have you had any realisations surrounding your aromanticism lately? The Carnival would love to hear about it.

By now you must have noticed our banner and have hopefully clicked the link! From here on out we will be working diligently on prompting and creating for Aromantic-spectrum Awareness Week (ASAW). Next month we will have compiled a list of upcoming events and ways for you to get involved. If you would like to be on that list and share an idea of your own email us at contact@aromanticism.org. For now enjoy all the things we have on offer on our official ASAW page.

For those interested, AUREA has put together our 2019 financial record that can be accessed at any time and will be updated regularly.

Out and about?

This months NW England/Liverpool meetup will be held at the Egg Cafe on the 18th of January at 2pm. Go along and have some fun!

Aros in the media

As an asexual, the search for true love is a game I don’t understand by Yasmin Benoit

“The general assumption is that asexuality is a physical issue, but that if you are aromantic, there has to be something wrong with your soul.”

Don’t let the title fool you, this asexual activist is speaking out on her aromanticism and how it has affected the way she views life - and how it affects the way people view her.

A few months ago we promoted Michael Paramo’s book Ending the Pursuit: Asexuality, Aromanticism, and Agender Identity. Today we can confirm that this piece has been successfully funded and hopefully soon we can all give it a good long read. Congratulations, Michael.
