The rainbow flag became a symbol of the gay community in San Francisco, 1978, and is now used the world over by the collective LGBTQIA+ community. You see a rainbow flag flying and you know someone cares.

Symbols of identity are a shorthand that speak of pride, unity, and comfort. There’s a reason we aros practically throw a party at the sight of an aro flag at a pride event. It is a statement worth celebrating.

The AUREA team have put together some pieces of our own. Aromantic gear is few and far between and often accompanied by horrendous shipping costs. Below you will find seven tutorials, with the cost to make them.

A light-skinned hand holding a pendant made of small stones looped onto metal. The stones, from top to bottom, are the colors of the aromantic flag. At the bottom, the metal twists into a golden feather.

Flag Pendant

Make your very own customizable pendant! This necklace is simple to design and create, with little experience in jewellery making needed. The estimated price for this piece is around $20AUD or $14USD. Follow this tutorial for more details.

Three hand-painted button pins. One is white with the word ARO in capital letters written in the middle in green. Around the word are small lines, alternating black and green, emanating from the center. Another pin is hand-painted in the design of the asexual flag. The last pin is hand-painted in the design of the orange akoiromantic flag.

Button PIns from Scratch

Don’t have any old buttons lying around? Here’s how you can make your own buttons from dollar store items at around $7AUD or $5USD. This tutorial will show you how to put these buttons together and give you the freedom to create your own designs.

Arrowhead Patch

Have you always wanted to cover a cool jean jacket in fun patches? This tutorial will teach you how to make your dreams come true. If you have no experience with embroidery this first piece will cost around $20USD or $30AUD, but once you own the starting supplies every patch to follow will be dirt cheap.

Flag Beanie

Keep yourself warm with this aromantic beanie! For those of you that have no experience and no supplies this piece will cost around $30USD or $44AUD. Like the patches, this price pays for an investment in more knitted items.

We had a lot of fun making pride gear and we hope you do too! Whether you wear these pieces every day of the week, for your next pride parade, or alone in your room we hope they remind you of the vast community you are a part of.
