This month AUREA is hosting Carnival of Aros! The topic is Mental Health and for those of you interested in participating our book project team could contact you in the future. The book we’ve been working on with Jessica Kingsley Publishers will be covering a range of topics, including a section on mental health. Check out the provided prompts and if you have something to share maybe someone will be reading it in a book one day. And if you’d like to be one of the people writing that book, we’re currently looking for an aro allo and a team coordinator. Out and about?
Angela Chen, author of Ace, is offering five $400 creative writing scholarships to aro and ace writers. Chen wishes to see more aro and ace literature in the world and is doing something about it. The five scholarships are for anyone over the age of 18 and prioritise different people of race, age, disability, and gender. Aros in Media
Hannah Tesler is a PhD candidate at Yale and is looking to interview more participants for her dissertation study on single adults living in the US, including those who identify as aromantic She particularly wants to include more underrepresented aros in her study, including but not limited to participants who identify as: BIPOC and other racial/ethnic minorities; cis-male, transmasc, or any male-spec gender; NB; and/or allo aro. Her research proposal was vetted by AUREA and found to be a proposal that was ethical and respectful of participants. Please see her call for participants below.
“Seeking Singles for Participation in a Research Study
Hi, my name is Hannah Tessler and I am a PhD candidate at Yale University. For my dissertation research, I am looking to interview singles adults based in the US who identify with varying sexual and romantic orientations, including those who identify as being aromantic. I am particularly interested in recruiting more interviewees who hold perspectives that are underrepresented including but not limited to participants who identify as: BIPOC and other racial/ethnic minorities; cis-male, transmasc, or any male-spec gender; non-binary; and/or allo aro.
The purpose of this research study is to learn more about individuals’ relationship preferences and dating behaviors over time. Study activities will include participating in a zoom or phone interview, and future follow-ups, if you are willing – but you can choose to opt out at any time. After the initial interview you will be asked to complete a brief demographic survey and you will receive a $20 gift card to thank you for your time.
